Earlier this morning, Clover School District administration confirmed that power has been restored in all district buildings and in the majority of homes throughout the community, Clover School District will resume its normal operating schedule on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. A small portion of our families may still be without power. The transportation department has shared that if a student misses a bus on Tuesday due to power issues,, they can call 803-810-8190, and a bus will be sent back to assist. We thank Duke Energy and York Electric for their tireless work to restore power throughout the district following Hurricane Helene's catastrophic impact on the power grid. Additionally, we want to thank our social workers and others who helped families this morning at Clover High School with food, water, and electricity. Finally, we commend the food services department for their efforts to save as much of the district's food supplies as possible by moving products from the buildings without power to those with power. Their work minimized the amount of loss that would have otherwise taken place. Have a good afternoon; we look forward to returning to a sense of normalcy on Tuesday. All schools and buildings will operate on a normal schedule.

Clover School District has been closely monitoring the forecast around Hurricane Helene and the potential for severe weather in our area starting late Thursday and continuing into morning hours on Friday. Currently, the forecasts suggest that we may experience high winds, heavy rain, and potential flooding that would impact the travel conditions for buses and automobiles. Available information from various sources, including the National Weather Service, show that wind speeds may exceed the state guidelines for safe bus operation. Based on this information, Clover School District will transition to eLearning on Friday, September 27. All CSD buildings will be closed. Parents will receive direct information from their school on the details around the eLearning Day. At this time, forecasts indicate that weather conditions will improve by late Friday afternoon. Therefore, scheduled homecoming events and athletics on Friday evening will continue as planned. However, any changes to the schedule will be communicated by individual schools as needed.

Clover School District (CSD) construction projects continue to make great progress! The new Field House at Clover High School (CHS) has a roof now and is on schedule for completion in December. At the Ninth Grade Campus, the pad is ready for construction to begin on the arts wing for the future Roosevelt Middle School. The arts wing is expected to be completed this spring. After the approval of a construction contract for Liberty Hill Elementary last month, clearing has started on the property off Cannonball Run. Footings, curbs and gutters are being poured at Lake Wylie High School. We can’t wait to see this building start to go vertical!

In Mr. Jack McGivern's U.S. History class, students participated in an engaging and dynamic Presidential Mock Trial centered around the USHC Standard: USHC.2.E: Utilize primary and secondary sources to judge the impact of economic and continental expansion on the evolving disagreements over natural rights and federalism. The trial was designed to challenge students to analyze and interpret a variety of primary sources, including speeches, letters, political cartoons, and historical documents from Lincoln’s era. Students were divided into two groups: one representing the prosecution, tasked with questioning Lincoln's decisions and legacy, while the other group acted as the defense, arguing in support of his actions and achievements. Each team had to build their case by thoroughly researching Lincoln’s policies on issues such as the Civil War and the preservation of the Union. Armed with evidence from the primary sources, students delivered opening statements, cross-examined each other and presented arguments to support their side. The classroom transformed into a courtroom as students played their roles as lawyers, witnesses, and historians. The trial pushed them to not only think critically about Lincoln’s presidency but also to develop skills in argumentation, public speaking, and historical analysis. By the end of the activity, the students had gained a deeper understanding of what it means to utilize the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
