Title I
What is Title I?
Title I is a law under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965 which provides federal funds for compensatory educational services. Compensatory means "extra." Title I funds may provide extra teachers, instructional assistants, funding for staff development, additional supplies and materials in the areas of reading and math for eligible schools. Title I programs also offer opportunities for parents to make suggestions and recommendations regarding programs and use of Title I funds while providing families with skills to help their children learn and become successful.
Which Schools are Eligible?
Clover School District serves three schools using Title I funds. Title I schools are: Bethany Elementary School, Kinard Elementary School, and Larne Elementary School. These schools are served using a School-wide program.
Schools in which fewer than 40% of the students qualify for free/reduced lunch may be served and are called Title I Targeted-Assistance schools. Currently Clover School District has no Targeted-Assistance schools.
Schools where 40% or more of the students qualify for free/reduced lunch are eligible for School-wide programs. School-wide programs are in place at Bethany, Kinard, and Larne. A School-wide program means that all students in the school are able to participate in services and the entire school is working toward higher achievement standards and acceleration for students in reading and math.
Who May Participate?
All students in Title I schools with School-wide programs benefit from these services. Services provided from Title I funds include: Reading Recovery teachers, literacy teachers, arts in education teacher, interventionists, instructional assistants, field trips, technology, instructional materials and supplies, and parent involvement programs. Parent participation and involvement is encouraged in all Title I Schools through opportunities to visit classrooms, serve on committees, offer recommendations and suggestions, and attend meetings and workshops.
