High School Equivalency (GED) Program
Tri-District Adult Education high school equivalency classes are designed to prepare students for the rigorous content assessed on the GED test.
Each student’s educational level is assessed during registration using the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) to determine a starting point for instruction and a personalized learning plan is designed for each student based on these test scores.
Once students meet certain academic and workplace preparation criteria, Tri-District Adult Education pays the student’s GED testing fee (up to $150).
Subject Areas Tested
The GED Test consists of 4 subject areas:
Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA)
Includes Reading, Grammar, and Extended Response
Mathematical Reasoning
Social Studies
Science
Students take the test in parts – 1 subject at a time at an authorized testing center.
Passing Score:
Students must pass all 4 subtests of the GED with a passing score of 145 or greater to earn the South Carolina High School Equivalency Diploma.
Cost:
In the State of South Carolina, each subtest costs $37.50 for a total of $150 for all four parts.
Students may take the GED without attending classes, however if you attend Tri-District Adult Education and meet certain academic and workplace requirements the cost of the test is paid for by Tri-District Adult Education through scholarship funds from the state.
