Thanks to all the families who turned out for Friday night's CHS Student Council Trunk or Treat! We had an amazing crowd on a beautiful night. Thanks to all the clubs and community organizations who support this event each year. This was the third year the Student Council hosted the Trunk or Treat. It gets bigger and better each year. The event was the idea of student leaders who wanted to create a way to give back to the Clover community. The event is fully student-led and organized.

Juniors and Seniors enrolled in Health Sciences courses at the Applied Technology Center (ATC) had the opportunity to try their hand at robotic surgery today, thanks to a partnership with Piedmont Medical Center. Piedmont Medical Center hosted a Robotic Surgery Symposium today at the Rock Hill Sport and Event Center. Health Science students interacted with representatives from three surgical robot companies as well as surgical staff members from Piedmont Medical Center. They could use the Globus Medical surgical robot to repair an injury in a lab model of a spine. At the Stryker Mako station, students simulated robotic knee surgery on a lab model knee. The Davinci Intuitive 5 robot tested the students’ dexterity the most. Students were challenged to use the robot to unwrap a Tootsie Roll, imitating the fine motor skills used by surgeons with the robot to perform general surgery. The ATC’s Health Science teachers are Kelly Childers and Michelle Campbell.

The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) today released State Report Cards for schools. The report cards, which compile school and district performance on a number of assessments previously released by SCDE, compare student performance against a series of benchmarks and provide ratings in various categories, including Academic Achievement, Preparing for Success, English Learners’ Progress, Graduation Rate and College and Career Readiness. Highlights for the school district remain in the academic achievement category where five schools scored “Excellent” and 5 schools scored “Good” on state reading and mathematics assessments. At Clover High, graduation rate once again remained in the top tier of SC high schools with an “Excellent” rating at 94.1%. College and Career Readiness also saw a 15 point gain to 87.2% and received an “Excellent” rating this year. Most CSD schools maintained the same overall rating they had in 2023. One school, Kinard Elementary, showed improvement, moving from “Average” to “Good.” Three schools slipped to a lower designation. Crowders Creek Elementary and Oakridge Middle School moved from “Excellent” to “Good.” Clover Middle School moved from “Good” to “Average.” Clover High School maintained its “Excellent” rating by continuing to demonstrate strong performance in the Graduation Rate and College and Career Readiness categories. Several schools are marked as “Not Rated” in the Multilingual Learners’ Progress category. These are schools that do not have a large enough Multilingual Learner population to generate a performance rating without compromising the confidentiality of individual students. “I am extremely proud that Clover schools continue to earn high ratings on the South Carolina State Report Card. Our schools perform so well because our talented and committed educators work tirelessly to deliver engaging instruction that challenges students to master rigorous standards,” said Clover School District Superintendent Dr. Sheila Quinn. The ratings for this year are: Bethany Elementary–Good Bethel Elementary–Good Crowders Creek Elementary–Good Griggs Road Elementary–Excellent Kinard Elementary–Good Larne Elementary–Good Oakridge Elementary–Excellent Clover Middle School–Average Oakridge Middle School–Good Clover High School–Excellent

More than 500 students from seven South Carolina school districts were in Clover today for the South Carolina Association of Student Councils (SCASC) District 4 (D4) Rally. Learning was the focus of the event, as students heard from a keynote speaker and took part in various workshops. The rally’s theme was “Tackling ‘Reel’ Leadership,” and used fishing as a metaphor for overcoming challenges. The event opened with the presentation of colors from the Clover High School Air Force Junior ROTC and a powerful a cappella rendition of the National Anthem by Clover High School (CHS) Senior Q Gregory. CHS Principal Donna Farris and Clover School District (CSD) Superintendent Dr. Sheila Quinn delivered greetings to the students and their advisors. The keynote speaker for the event was Aric Jackson. Jackson encouraged students to consider the positive and negative ripple effects that their actions have on both themselves and the world around them. Students in attendance came from schools in Chester, Chesterfield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Richland and York school districts.
