American Education Week has been celebrated since 1921 and was created "for the purpose of informing the public of the accomplishments and needs of the public schools and to secure the cooperation and support of the public in meeting those needs." CSD thanks all our community supporters for their ongoing commitment to educational excellence.

Students in Allison Gainey’s Computer Programming class at the Applied Technology Center (ATC) learned about soft skills today from two local business leaders. As part of the York County Natural Gas Authority’s (YCNGA) Community Investment Initiative, Barry Duncan, Director of Business Development and Sales, and Hannah Smith, Marketing Manager, delivered a presentation entitled “Soft Skills and Career Readiness: Essentials for Success in the Workplace.” Smith highlighted ten crucial soft skills, including communication, teamwork, accountability, creativity, time management, adaptability, problem solving, initiative, conflict management, and leadership. Duncan reviewed leadership goals, including building trust, having a shared vision, leading by example and empowering others. Duncan and Smith wrapped up their presentation with a list of career readiness tips and conducted mock interviews to demonstrate both good and bad interviewing behaviors. Today’s presentation is part of an ongoing partnership between York County Natural Gas Authority and the Applied Technology Center. Soft skills are a key component of South Carolina’s Profile of a Graduate.

First graders at Bethany Elementary shared animal research projects with parents yesterday. The "Writing Zoo" project has been going on for the last couple of weeks and affords students the opportunity to showcase their growing research and writing skills. Alexa Dollard is the literacy coach at Bethany.

As the holiday season approaches, York County All on Board wants to reinforce the facts around underage drinking.

Newly-elected and returning members of the Clover School District Board of Trustees were sworn into office at last night's School Board meeting. Jessica Cody (Seat 3) and Tracy Stiff (At-Large) were sworn in to serve another term. Kenda Cook (Seat 4) was sworn in to serve her first term on the Board.

It's National School Psychology Week! The theme for this year's celebration is "Spark Discovery!" Be sure to thank your School Psychologist!

"We are a grateful nation" were the lyrics of a moving tribute to Veterans today at Bethel Elementary. Like Bethel, schools across the district hosted parades, breakfasts and programs to honor the men and women in our community who have served or who are currently serving in a branch of the military. Bethel Elementary opened their assembly with the Presentation of Colors by Clover High School's Air Force JROTC, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem. Students in the school's Artistic Music GT program performed a bucket drumming song. Third grade students, under the direction of music teacher Michael Jenkins, performed musical selections called "A Grateful Nation." Students read poems and letters of appreciation to our veterans. Assistant Principal Shaun Davis led the Salute to the Armed Forces, where veterans stood to applause as the hymn of their branch of the military was played. The program closed following a moment of silence for fallen troops. Veterans in attendance for the program then took part in a parade through the school's hallways and a reception in their honor.

On Parents as Teachers Day, we highlight the work of our Bright Beginnings program. Yesterday, Bright Beginnings hosted a "Play to Grow" event at Bethany Elementary. These events are designed to conduct early childhood and parent education activities at locations throughout the district. "Play to Grow" started with a fall story read by Bethany Elementary Principal Margaret Guerin. Students from Katie Hurley's Kindergarten class arrived to help the younger students learn their alphabet and letter sounds. Members of the school choir, under the direction of Emily Eakes, led several rounds of "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes." Bright Beginnings Director Carolyn Green spoke to parents about the importance of routines at home. The session wrapped up with developmentally appropriate free play.

Clover High School and the Clover Rotary Club once again partnered to host the second annual Heroes Luncheon. The luncheon was held earlier today at First United Methodist Church. Veterans and first responders from the community were invited to join students, elected officials and local business leaders for the event. The Clover High School Air Force Junior ROTC presented the colors and conducted a flag folding ceremony. The Clover High School Choraliers performed the National Anthem. Members of the Interact Club were seated at each table and interviewed the veterans and first responders who sat with them to learn more about their service. Lunch was prepared by students in the Culinary Arts program of the Applied Technology Center. Sheriff-Elect Tony Breeder, who is a former Marine, was the guest speaker for the event.

Happy Birthday, Clover School District Auditorium (CSDA)!!! CSDA has been educating, enlightening and enriching the Clover community for the last 30 years. CSDA first opened its doors on November 10, 1994. Since that time, it has hosted touring acts including George Winston, the National Symphony Orchestra, Kathy Mattea, Queen Latifah and the President’s Own Marine Band. In the course of the last 30 years, CSDA has hosted an estimated 1.5 million audience members at more than 1,500 events. (And that doesn’t include rehearsals!) Events ranging from assemblies to awards ceremonies have taken place on the CSDA stage.

Clover School District (CSD) is partnering with York School District on Connect: A Special Services Transition Fair. The event will be held Tuesday, November 19, from 5-7 p.m. at the CSD District Resource Center. The Transition Fair is intended to connect families of children with disabilities to important community resources for social support and transition to the work or college environments.

More than a dozen community leaders visited the Applied Technology Center (ATC) today to learn more about its award-winning Career and Technical Education offerings. Guests were welcomed with opening remarks from ATC Principal Carrie Bolin. They visited four of the programs--Diesel Engine Technology, Fire Science, Health Science and Agriculture Science--to try their hands at skills students perform in these classes every day. The visitors enjoyed lunch prepared by students in the Culinary Arts program, under the direction of Chef Scott Michaw. The guests were joined by the presidents of the six student professional organizations on campus. Superintendent Dr. Sheila Quinn delivered closing remarks to wrap up the event.
