In 2019, Clover School District and York School District formed a unique partnership in which the first Utility Line Worker Program offered in a South Carolina high school was created. Students accepted into this year-long program spend part of their academic day at The Floyd D. Johnson Center where Clover and York students are taught in the classroom and on a training field by a retired ULW professional to become industry certified Utility Line Workers. This program is an extension of the Middle College Program and is offered through York Technical College. The highlight of the year culminates in a Spring ULW Rodeo where students are given the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have mastered and various companies in the region also attend the event to scout for prospective employees. Successful ULW students are eligible to participate in York Tech’s graduation ceremony and are Career Ready upon graduation from both YTC and Clover High School.
The Utility Line Worker Program is sponsored by area companies such as Duke Energy, York Electric Cooperative, Inc and Comporium just to name a few.
